Keeping a marriage alive is definitely possible when you do not have kids. Many couples cannot have kids due to health reasons, and they have great marriages. This really depends on the couple, however. If a couple communicates and cares about each other, their marriage should be just fine.

Having kids should never be the only thing keeping a couple married. Oftentimes, such marriages are filled with so many arguments that kids would rather their parents just get divorced. Divorce can be hard on children, but living in an angry house can be much worse. Nowadays, divorce is so common that children often are not so surprised when their parents announce that they are breaking up.

People spend so much time worried about being a “normal” family with kids that they sometimes think they need to have kids to be considered a normal couple. This is certainly not true. Many couples don’t have kids for various reasons, and there is nothing abnormal about that.
